Batik is the traditional clothes that a special from Indonesia. Batik is national wealth that has had since Majapahit kingdom. Indonesia doesn’t want to leave Batik to another country. Government of Indonesia fight Batik becomes national wealth. So, UNESCO designated Indonesia batik as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity on October 2^nd, 2009. As part of the acknowledgment, UNESCO insisted that Indonesia preserve their heritage. Almost all of Indonesian doesn’t know the exactly what the difference Batik Yogyakarta and Batik Papua. And this essay will share a little bit.

First, Batik Yogyakarta has two techniques that they usually use to make a beautiful Batik from Majapahit kingdom. Hand painting is the technique of Batik that use in the first history of batik. They prepare fabric. They draw design line. Then they give the color with “canting”, it’s tool to take wax-resist dyeing from pan to fabric. Batik print is the technique of batik that hasn’t to draw design but they just use tool like iron. The specific characteristic of batik Yogyakarta is motif and color. They just draw line and use black and white color only.

Second, Batik papua just has a technique, its Batik print. People of papua also use the same technique. They haven’t to draw and use “canting”. They just use tool like iron. But in the specific characteristic of Batik papua difference Yogyakarta. They have the unique motif. Such as Cendrawasih motif, Komodo motif, Sentani motif, etc. The basic color of batik papua is bright color, like red and orange.

We as an Indonesian haven’t to be confused with the difference motif of batik. But we have to proud and keep our national wealth. In order to another country don’t take it ours.
